So I've been upgraded. Usually that word implies something positive. A bigger hotel room, a nicer seat on the airplane. Something good. But that's the word my doctor used when he said I am no longer a nausea/vomiting pregnancy. I've been "upgraded" to hyperemesis gravidarum. That's Latin for "pregnant woman who vomits up everything." Now I'm hooked to an IV at home most of the day to treat my dehydration. Staring at a computer screen for longer than a few minutes just makes it worse, so don't think I hate you if I don't comment on your blog for a few months. I just want to keep my vomiting to a minimum. On the funny side though, Colby has a charming way of announcing what's going on when I make a dash for the bathroom by yelling, "Look out - she's gonna blow!" But then he did pick out some roses for me at the store the other day.
P.S. And before you suggest these, know that the following do not work: ginger, crackers, preggo pops, not thinking about how horrible I feel, getting out and walking around, motion sickness pills or bracelets, water, popsicles, or any standard anti-nausea medication. The doctor tried all of those before he resorted to a PICC line (long-term IV) and at-home IV fluids and vitamins. Sorry if that sounds grouchy, but after being told for the nth time that I really need to try ginger and crackers, I thought I'd just head that off at the pass. If you would like more information, a really good website is www.hyperemesis.org.

Ooh, hang in there girl! I wish I were around to help you out :) But hey, just think, your getting a new sweet little cuddle bug out of all this!
oh, I'm sorry. That is no fun. I wish there was an easy solution for hyperemesis. I also wish people would stop suggesting cure-alls for problems . . . it gets old really quick . . .
All I can say is I love you for being such an enduring Mom and tolerating all that you do for your children--hats off to you Steph!!!
Oh Stephanie. I am SO sorry. I went through that with both my pregnancies (and had my tubes tied after the last). Neither of them were over five pounds at birth because I COULD NOT keep anything down for nine months! With Caleb the dehydration was so bad that the nurses couldn't even get a PIC line in and had to surgically put a central line into my chest. The PIC line worked with Leanora, thank heavens. I hear ya when you say that NOTHING works, except for time, of course. Has your doctor put you on Zofran? That took the edge off for me, but didn't completely stop the vomiting. With Leanora I was sent to a specialist in Ogden who, among other things, put me on a steriod. That helped the most, but nothing really "cured" it. Well, anyway, I'll stop rambling, but I can empathize with you and I wish you the best.
I feel awful for you, Stephanie. Just think of the stories you'll have to tell this one of all you went through to bear her/him. You can guilt trip for life!
Have you had a blessing?
Poor Steph! Just think, when she is here, it will all be worth it!
